While today’s generation is stuck between Marvel and DC, we cannot forget the essence of Indian comics. Right from Tinkle, to Amar Chitra Katha, from Dabbu to Indrajal Comics, they always made our childhood better. Gradually, Chacha Chaudhary, Shikari Shambhu, Kalia, Suppandi and all the others became an inevitable part of the life of all the kids. Bageera, Mowgli, Baloo, took us for a mesmerizing tour in the Jungle Book. Times changed, all the characters grew old with us. But even now, looking back to all those characters brings an instant smile on our faces. They gave us memories, we can cherish forever.

With all of this, one thing which was always missing in the Indian comics was the presence of the FEMALE CHARACTERS in the comics. The dearth could always be felt, because a female character brings an extra packet of joy, innocence, happiness and laughter with her. So what if we have a comic where the entire story is revolving around a little girl. She will take you all to her world and you will be for sure addicted to the journey.

Here’s where Tibu took birth.

Tibu comics is the journey of an 8 year old girl who is naughty and smart. She is creative, lazy, impulsive, everything at the same time. Tibu will leave you amazed through her daily life antics. She will make you laugh even after you have a long tiring day at work. She will be with you everyday, everytime and she will keep on tickling you till your tummy hurts. Considering her love for colours and art, she will make your life vivid. Being weak at numbers, she can’t solve maths problems, but she can teach you how to keep your life problems aside. Along with Tibu, you will get to meet her family, her dog Gabbar, her friends, Deboo and Mili, her neighbour Rita aunty.

Thumbnails are drawn thoughts.

These small sketches, combined with brief notes, capture ideas for a story or character so that the memory is not lost. Thumbnails can be worked up into a finished drawing at a later time.

Always work rough before going clean. Do not render or model final drawings at this stage. Draw a new thumbnail if you can stage something better. Thumbnails allow you to change the drawings and your mind.

Remember character designs and storyboards both start out as rough and simple thumbnails. And for Animators they can portray different stages of the animated action.

Where Do Scripts Come From?

Great experiences make great stories, usually. The world around us is filled with great stories, we just need to open our imagination. Every person on earth has a story to share. Every success or failure has a compelling story to express. Those unforgettable moments, those unexplained encounters, those unexpected love stories are the experiences that compel us to write a story. We simply need to become aware of our surroundings. Stories are like ping pong balls and all we need to do is catch the right one.

A good storyteller is one who can ignite the emotions of the audience. Storytellers are good listeners, good readers and are aware of the happenings around them. If we see something that incites our emotion, we find ourselves telling the tale.

The more dramatic your story is, the more engaging it will be to the audience. Use interesting words that keep the audience hooked.

Infusing these key elements to make your story more dramatic:

Surprise elements
Extraordinary character behaviour and nuances
Controversy
Mystery
Suspense

There are many ways to tell a story visually:

Computer Animation: 2D Animation, 3D Animation,

Scripts – the key to Storytelling in a visual medium

A good script helps you to hook the audience into the story. The audience, in turn, needs to see and hear the suffering of the protagonist to feel it themselves.

Previsualization is important for good storytelling. Here, you don’t just explain the feeling, you show the feeling. We only love the movies and characters that captivate our imagination.

The King has Donkey Ears

We have just completed our work on creating these illustrations for Tinkle. It was a seven page story based on Irish folk/Midas tale, in which a King who is full of himself is punished by an Angel by changing his ears to that of a Donkey and how he manages to restore those. Sharing to show you the artwork as it was intended to see (of course this one’s without the word balloons). For some reason the color of these pages got muddled in the print. These are the first three pages.
